The point is not that the evolution engine looks better, which literally no one is saying, but that it is better optimized. You're still not understanding what optimization, and the entire topic of this thread is about. It's kind of ironic that they're called "Digital Extremes" when their biggest strength comes from them taking a middle path. And after years of constantly refining and improving that balancing act, they've pretty much mastered it. So they need their game to be able to balance looking good with running on a half-decade-old netbook some kid bought off ebay using mom's allowance money. But due to their free-to-play business model, they attract a lot more players than those who can afford a supercharged rig. They aren't a small company as far as independent devs go, and they strive to create a game with AAA-level quality. They favor one extreme or the other, and that usually works out for their specific uses.ĭE, though, is in an interesting position. Most engines usually either display simple graphics in order to run buttery-smooth on even the most potato of rigs (what most low-budget indies do in order to have their game available to as broad an audience as possible), or cranking out the highest-fidelity graphics the cosmos has ever seen, performance be damned (a lot of AAA games do this because their target demographic is rich enough to buy/build powerful enough gaming rigs so that the hit to performance doesn't matter). Usually, there's a sort of push-and-pull between accessibility and high graphical fidelity.

The Evolution Engine is what it is because it has very different demands than other game engines. I mean, I could go on indefinitely, the engine is not perfect and it's not shitty either, but it has some pretty big issues that don't make it "the most optimized piece of work".īut maybe OP is right, it's the best he has ever seen, probably he missed Source,Unreal (and maybe even CryEngine) Temporal AS is really bad and it's excessively blurry, TAS+MSAA is also pretty bad.īesides, on a i7 4970K, GTX970 and 16 gigs of ram I often experience staggering even with 60+ fps, which isn't definitely an issue related to my hardware since I can run heavier games smoothly without any issue. Lighting is pretty bad, objects and maps are affected by different light sources, forced shadows and skyboxes are not affected by the normal fog, syandanas have pretty bad physics (let alone sugatras), motion blur is also tied to fps (I have to disable vsync to have an acceptable motion blur and play with 200fps on a 60z monitor, because with 60fps it's blurrier and it looks horrible).
